The club when formed in 1977 had played all their league games on pitches provide by Colaiste Seosamh & St Benins Vocational School, Glenamaddy. These were used for the first couple of years until the club moved to a pitch generously provided by Brendan Raftery in Clondoyle. After a couple of years Celtic moved again to a pitch in Clonberne and used that for all their home matches. After another spell in Clondoyle - Celtic in 1984 when things were not looking good for the club were exceptionally lucky to be provided with a pitch by the club President Dr.Patrick Geraghty which was to become Celtic's home for many a year and see many memorable matches and occasions. However in 1998 Glen Celtic decided that it needed a permanent home and took on the major plan of purchasing land and creating its own stage.
were put in place to provide a playing pitch, training pitch and dressingrooms. With the expert help and work of local contractors Jack & Alan Gannon the work began to clear away the site and start putting in place the dream....... Extensive work was done on the grounds and a wall and fencing erected to define the boundaries. The pitch was worked on diligently with the help of Dunmore man Brian Martyn whose contribution was immense in providing Glen Celtic with one of the best surfaces in the Roscommon District League. Extensive work began on the dressing rooms with extensive shower facilities and referee's room completed (see pictures). This project was completed within the timeframe and is a credit to Glen Celtic a worthy facility for existing players / mentors and hopefully many more players & mentors for years to come.
Even though this development has cost the club in the region of € 200,000 there are still plans in store to continue the development. Currently the club is evaluating the possibility of installing floodlights and erecting dugouts and a stand so that facilities will be right up there with the best in the Roscommon & District League. The playing and training facilities are kept in excellent condition. With a lot of groundwork Musco Lighting were selected to complete the task of installing floodlighting with a level of 500 Lux average across the pitch. In early August work began and though the summer had been relatively dry the minute the project started the weather changed for the worst. Despite this the project went ahead and during September / October of 2006 the work was started on the trenching and erecting of the pre-cast concrete bases for the floodlights. In late November the floodlights were erected and Celtic also installed a generator to run the floodlights.

In early December 2006 the floodlights were turned on and David Brady and the B-Team played the first competitive match under floodlights in mid December. This was the start of many nights during the winter where the floodlights could be seen with the A-Team and B-Team playing under lights and indeed Castlerea Celtic & Kilkerrin Utd also played some fixtures.
It is a sign of the foresight of clubs within the Roscommon & District League that there are now four clubs, Celtic, Cloonfad Utd, Ballinasloe & Shiven Rovers with the capability to host matches under floodlights.
Our thanks to everyone who helped us in our fundraising
