For a number of years Glen Celtic A.F.C have thought of installing floodlighting to compliment the facilities already in place. In the winter of 2005 a detailed plan was put in place to install floodlighting and with the aid of a Sports Capital Grant a certain amount of funding was received which allowed the project to go ahead.
With a lot of groundwork Musco Lighting were selected to complete the task of installing floodlighting with a level of 500 Lux average across the pitch. In early August work began and though the summer had been relatively dry the minute the project started the weather changed for the worst. Despite this the project went ahead and during September / October of 2006 the work was started on the trenching and erecting of the pre-cast concrete bases for the floodlights. In late November the floodlights were erected and Celtic also installed a generator to run the floodlights.

In early December 2006 the floodlights were turned on and David Brady and the B-Team played the first competitive match under floodlights in mid December. This was the start of many nights during the winter where the floodlights could be seen with the A-Team and B-Team playing under lights and indeed Castlerea Celtic & Kilkerrin Utd also played some fixtures.
It is a sign of the foresight of clubs within the Roscommon & District League that there are now four clubs, Celtic, Cloonfad Utd, Ballinasloe & Shiven Rovers with the capability to host matches under floodlights.
Our thanks to everyone who helped us in our fundraising
